Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Railway has launched a major crackdown on ticket black marketing, blocking around 100,000 mobile numbers and national identity card registrations allegedly linked to illegal ticket trading.
Railways State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib disclosed the information while visiting Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Sunday (May 24) to inspect Eid travel preparations and passenger services.
During the visit, the minister spoke with passengers and reviewed the overall ticketing situation at the station. Several passengers complained about difficulties in securing train tickets online.
In response, the minister said authorities have intensified surveillance to prevent ticket black marketing and identify syndicates involved in irregularities. He added that legal and administrative actions have already been taken against those responsible, while monitoring efforts will continue throughout the Eid travel period.
“The measures have been taken to reduce passenger suffering and ensure a safe and comfortable Eid journey for ordinary travellers,” he said.
The minister also instructed railway officials concerned to remain vigilant and strengthen oversight of the entire ticketing process to prevent further irregularities during the holiday rush.
