BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport, preparing to return to Bangladesh after a 17-year hiatus. He is accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zobaida Rahman, and daughter, Barrister Jaime Rahman.
Tarique checked in at the airport at 4:15 pm local time on Wednesday. His Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight (BG-202) is scheduled to depart for Dhaka at 6:15 pm. Six confirmed tickets were booked for the business class, including his media team head Abu Abdullah Saleh, personal assistant Abdur Rahman Sunny, and Tabassum Farhana. The total fare amounts to £9,856 (approximately BDT 16 lakh).
Upon arrival in Dhaka, Tarique Rahman’s three-day itinerary will include a series of official and public engagements. On 25 December, senior party leaders will welcome him at the airport, followed by a reception at July Expressway and the 300-foot road, where he will address supporters. He is also scheduled to visit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital before heading to his residence in Gulshan-2.
On 26 December, after Friday prayers, he will pay homage at Ziaur Rahman’s grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. On 27 December, his activities will include updating his national ID and voter registration, visiting the grave of Shaheed Osman Hadi at Dhaka University, and meeting victims of the July mass uprising at Shyamoli hospital.
This marks Tarique Rahman’s return to active political engagement in Bangladesh after nearly two decades abroad.
