The two-day CSE Carnival 2026 organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur, concluded on Saturday with a closing ceremony and prize distribution, bringing together more than 1,200 students from over 100 universities across the country.
The closing ceremony was held at the university’s Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium, where DUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Engr Mohammad Iqbal attended as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, the vice-chancellor said the overwhelming participation of students from universities nationwide had transformed the carnival into one of the country’s major technology festivals. He noted that the event showcased innovation, creativity and research, reflecting the growing potential of young technology enthusiasts.
He also emphasised that the CSE Department is committed not only to academic excellence but also to practical learning, research and technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges. The projects and presentations displayed during the carnival demonstrated the talent, dedication and innovative mindset of the participating students, he added.
DUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Arefin Kawsar, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, and Mohammad Tawrit, Chief Executive Officer of BdREN, attended the programme as special guests. Prof Dr Mohammad Kaykobad, President of the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee and a professor at BRAC University, was present as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor described computer science as more than programming, saying it is a discipline that drives innovation and shapes the future. He encouraged students to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks and continue pursuing their ambitions.
The deputy commissioner highlighted the role of science and technology in addressing practical problems and praised the innovative projects presented by participants, particularly those related to agriculture, engineering, healthcare and digital technologies.
The programme was chaired by Prof Dr Momtaz Begum, Head of the CSE Department. Among others, Prof Dr Utpal Kumar Das, Director of Student Welfare, and Prof Dr Moha Abu Toyob, Project Director of the DUET Chapter of the National Science and Technology Carnival 2026 and DUET Registrar (additional charge), also addressed the audience.
Organised with the support of the DUET Computer Society and Whiteboard Initiatives as part of the Innovers Bangladesh National Science and Technology Carnival 2026, the event featured an ICT Olympiad, project showcasing, an Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC), an AI Hackathon and networking sessions.
The two-day festival concluded with the announcement of winners and the distribution of prizes, celebrating excellence in innovation, programming and technology-based problem-solving among university students.
